If you want to get ahead — yes.
Entrepreneurs, professionals, people in transition, athletes, musicians, and people from just about every discipline known to man work with Coaches. In today’s trying times, behind almost every Winner, there’s a Coach.
‘The best and the brightest’ use coaching to improve their condition and to avoid complacency. Coaching is a routine (and often mandatory) practice where the stakes are high and the margins for error are low.
If you want your career trajectory to ‘look up,’ you would do well to hire a Coach.
A number of factors: Relevant experience (been there, done that) is often mandatory for Job Search Coaching. Then there’s Drive, Superior communication skills, Empathy (as opposed to Sympathy), solid Work Ethic, a healthy intellectual curiosity, and most importantly, an excellent understanding of human behaviour (resistance to change / psychological homeostasis, motivation, etc.).
It helps if the Coach is familiar with the journey the coachee is about to undertake – this infuses perspective and empathy into the coach-coachee relationship (perspective and empathy are crucial because most coaching assignments require mid-course corrections and if the coach isn’t familiar with the journey, the process can fall apart).
In our context, the Coach must have a deep understanding of the recruitment process. Ideally, the Coach must have led and closed multiple Leadership search projects. Without a thorough understanding of the behind-the-scenes action, Job Search Coaching is a futile exercise — especially in this (current economy’s) day and age.
Ask a LOT of questions about recruitment: The companies the Coach has closed positions with, the length and depth of his / her recruiting experience, etc. Don’t be swept away by fancy certificates and titles or Executive / Life Coach tags — look for real-world, hands-in-the-dirt recruitment experience. (If you want ‘Life Coaching’ advice, you might as well buy a 250/- book. If you want a better career, look for someone who can talk about career strategy off-the-cuff.)
We encourage you to customize the Options. Our goal is to help you find a job, and you know your strengths, weaknesses, and objectives better than anyone. When you customize the options, we provide you with a customized quote (with explanations).
The Options are used to serve as guideposts – there is more than one route to the destination and you’re welcome to mix-and-match the Options. However, we urge you to pause and think before discarding / adopting; if you’re avoiding something because you’re uncomfortable with the work involved, it may adversely affect your results.

In short, yes. The Hiring process is more or less identical across industries and companies. There are minor variances in the Hiring process for certain sectors (boutique Consulting and IT firms), but this can be easily addressed.
Ultimately, finding a job is about focusing on few important areas – regardless of industry or function.
The purpose of Job Search Coaching is to help you understand the process of landing a job. The results you’ll achieve depend on a variety of factors – some of which are within your control, and some outside.
We are invested in your success, but there are no guarantees that you will land a job. The magic is in the process (doing the right things consistently over time); for e.g., the more you reach out and connect, the faster your networking skills and your network develop – and the better your chances of landing the job you want.
